From iconic landmarks to hidden gems, I’ve rounded up the best locations for stunning prom photos, no matter your style.

And if you're a photography lover (or just want to know *all* the best spots for any occasion), my Rochester Photography Guide Book has you covered. It’s packed with insider tips and over 70 incredible locations to make every snapshot frame-worthy. Let’s dive into the best places for prom pics!

Urban legend has it that the “White Lady’s Castle” in Durand Eastman Park is home to the White Lady that roams around looking for her lost love. In reality, the castle is a former Lakefront Hotel. There is not a lot left of the castle but is a unique piece of Rochester history and definitely would be fun to play around with!

Bonus: there are tons of beautiful flowering trees at Durand Eastman Park! While it's across the street from the beach, it may not be easy to get down to the water in dresses and heels, be careful and take caution! Or atleast bring a spare pair of shoes to walk down to the water if you want to make sure you get some beach pictures while you're there!

The first time I went to the Irondequoit Bay Small Boats Harbor, I didn’t believe that it existed. While it is not a wide beach front, it is a unique spot with trees and a pier to walk down! It is a beautiful spot, no doubt about it! Your dress may get sandy but this is is a small intimate beach that would be a beautiful spot to get prom pictures at!

Tinker is beautiful for a variety of reasons. It is one of the places I took my Junior Prom pictures! They have a wooden gazebo and a wooden boardwalk through the pond and wetland area. Depending on the time of the year there are tall cattails, and beautiful green moss in their swamps. My photos were taken by the Hanson Nature Center (enter at the parking lot on Calkins Road) and there's the long tree lined walk way and flowering trees!

Parcel 5

An open field? Park? Concert venue? Parcel 5 wears a lot of hats to say the least but as an open area is a great spot for photos of our iconic center city buildings. Weather not great? Mercantile on Main across the street has beautiful natural light, I've had headshots taken here!

South Ave Parking Garage

Heading to the top of a parking garage, you can get amazing angles of our skyline that you just can’t get from the ground level! While these photos are amazing, keep in mind you will need to pay for parking!

Tucked away on the other side of the Pont de Rennes bridge across from the Genesee Brewery is Brown’s Race. A historic little corner of Rochester with beautiful stone structures from when so much of the city was powered through High Falls hydro power. Things may change in the coming years as High Falls was approved to become a New York State Park but for now it is a quiet, hidden gem.

Pro tip, if you walk straight forward from the picture at this vantage point, it will take you to a beautiful abandoned brick area. You're also near the Pont de Rennes Bridge to get High Falls in the background!

Corbett's Glen Covered Bridge

Corbett’s Glen Park has a beautiful, stone-covered bridge that takes you to a quaint waterfall. Corbett’s Glen has a series of small waterfalls along its path and is relatively flat for anyone looking for nature pictures! Parking can be tricky because it is in a residential neighborhood.

Eastman Theater

In high school, I had the honor of attending the Eastman Community School of Music and spent many Saturdays back and forth on Gibbs St. between the school and Java’s. Whether you choose to visit during the day or at night, the marquee is beautiful at all times of the day! If you visit, there are a couple of parking garages nearby. Parking on Gibbs St. is rare and nearly impossible on Saturdays.

Metropolitan Building

The Metropolitan Building is key to the Rochester skyline. My brother had his senior pictures taken outside the Metropolitan building and they turned out great with the stark white and black stripes on the building in the background. If you stop by, don’t forget the globe lights outside the building along Main Street. They are a beautiful feature both during the day and night! It would be such a fun spot on a rainy day with a bright colored rain coat and clear umbrella and do your own “singing in the rain” photoshoot!

Village Gate

A former factory (home to Chiclet gum at one point (yes, THAT Chiclet gum!) and a printing company) located in the Neighborhood of the Arts. The space is now a shopping center and restaurant hub with unique architecture inside and out! Outside, there are string lights and benches that would be great for portraits. Or, if your photo day turned unexpectedly rainy, the inside of Village Gate features beautiful globe lights and artsy stairs that would be a great spot for portraits as well!

Sunken Gardens, Highland Park

Below are some pictures from my senior ball where we took pictures at the Sunken Gardens! Our senior ball was a Friday night in June. This is important to factor in in my opinion because Lilac Festival was OVER at this point in time! Lilac Festival is set for May 9 - May 18, 2025. The gardens are located behind Warner Castle (at the corner of Mt. Hope & Reservoir Ave). It was a great spot for a big group!

Other honorable mentions:

Powder Mills Park

Sandbar Park (the park looks a little different than it did when I took pictures in 2014, honestly it is probably a better spot now!)

Wherever you take pictures, you are sure to look beautiful! Don't stress out on the location, just enjoy the night, it's not one you'll get to do the exact same way again!

No matter which spot you choose, Rochester has plenty of gorgeous locations to make your prom photos unforgettable. Whether you're going for dreamy, bold, or classic, the perfect backdrop is just a short drive away.
