President's Day around Rochester

Day 1 of Winter Break

Winter break is coming up and I've put together a "Winter Break Challenge" with 5 days of unique things to do around the Greater Rochester area starting with President's Day!

A lot of the places on today’s list have been on my own wish list to visit! While I do not have first hand experience with many of them, I tried to link to the best information sources to help you plan your day!

The Teddy Roosevelt Inaugural Site is the only National Park Service location in Western, NY! If a trip to Buffalo isn’t in the cards today, they do have virtual tours on their website you can check out!

Barack Obama was visiting Rochester and had asked Senator Chuck Schumer for suggestions of where to stop for lunch in Rochester. Secret service scoped out a variety of places and they landed on Magnolia’s Cafe on Park Ave! They now have the Obama Special” of a grilled cheese and tomato soup combo to commemorate his order.

If you’re okay with braving the cold, check out Abraham Lincoln Park in Penfield! The park is 182 acres on the shore of Irondequoit Bay.

On February 18, 1861, Abraham Lincoln made a train stop in Rochester. During his 6 minute visit, Lincoln addressed a crowd of more than 15,000 people. There is a historical sign to commemorate Lincoln’s visit to Rochester. If you type In “Abraham Lincoln Plaque” In to your GPS It will take you right there!

BE CAREFUL there Is a sidewalk but people fly by In their cars coming off the Inner loop!

While not necessarily something to do or somewhere to visit, if local presidential history has you thinking, you may be interested in this D&C article, “Franklin D. Roosevelt was no stranger to Rochester”.
