Highland Park is home to many flowers but magnolias are one of my favorites!
Oxford St. between Park Ave. and Monroe Ave. downtown is also lined with magnolia trees!
Home to the Rochester Lilac Festival, Highland Park has over 500 varieties of lilacs (varieties, not individual bushes!). The lilac festival usually starts the Friday before Mother’s Day and runs for 10 days. Due to a large number of varieties, lilacs can bloom throughout the entire month of May and depending on the weather may start in April and last into June.
Maplewood Rose Garden features 250 different rose varieties from early June to nearly Thanksgiving!
Not all roses are in bloom the entire season, I would recommend going in June if you can but know that they are beautiful the whole season!
Wisteria is in bloom in late May and early June and can be found at the George Eastman Gardens. This beautiful purple flower cascades down and is a showstopper on the beautiful architecture at the museum.
You don’t need to travel all the way to Washington D.C. to see beautiful Cherry Blossom trees! They can be spotted in Highland Park, outside of Gleason Works on University Ave in the Neighborhood of the Arts, and at Durand Eastman! Durand is probably my favorite place to see the Cherry Blossoms. They are more isolated so they really pop with no other trees taking attention away from them. Durand Eastman is mostly known for their beach front access but there are beautiful hiking trails with flowering trees making it a bright spot in the spring. Cherry Blossoms tend to bloom in April depending on the weather.
If you are willing to drive out to Buffalo, they can also be found at Delaware Park!
While I wish I had a large tulip field to share with you, right now I just have 2 spots to note! Gibbs St. in the East End has tulips that line the street and make for a beautiful spring scape.
They also can be found at, you guessed it, Highland Park! The tulips usually start to bloom in early - mid May.
